The population of Farmers Branch, Texas, is approximately 27,500 as of the 2000 census. It was first known as Mustang Branch, but this was changed to Farmers-Branch to reflect the rich farmland and soil. The Texan Land and Emigration Company established a headquarters in Farmers-Branch. In the 1840s, this was one of the largest cities in the county. In 1845, a Baptist minister named William Bowles opened a blacksmith shop and gristmill.
