The incorporated town of Flower Mound is located in the state of Texas, in Denton and Tarrant counties. It lies northwest of Fort Worth and northeast of Dallas. In addition to its great location, Flower Mound is also located within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The region has a high percentage of tornadoes compared to the rest of the U.S. and the state average. During a category F4 tornado that occurred in 1994 in Flower Mound, three people were killed and 48 were injured. The area was hit with fifty to five hundred million dollars in damages. Similarly, a category F3 tornado ripped through the city in 1957, killing ten people and injuring 200.
